As of the census[1] of 2006, there were 2,031 people, 782 households, and 510 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,424.3 people per square mile (548.9/km²). There were 849 housing units at an average density of 680.5 per square mile (262.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 92.60% White, 3.21% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.23% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.23% of the population.
There were 842 households out of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 30.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.82.
